Robotek robot creation3/2/2023 ![]() (I also wrote a few additional tables for setting-specific frames, once if which he ended up using.) The humanoid/long frames were the only ones I didn't significantly refactor, since they seemed okay as-was once I adjusted some other tables. The main bulk of my adjustments was rewriting a bunch of tables: I basically did new tables for the entire list of Frames and assigned new stats to them. I was able to make a lot of adjustments and ended up with something I'm pretty comfortable with letting him play in our game without making anything too overpowered (or underpowered.) But I was determined to make it happen, so I made it my quest to adapt the mechanics. ![]() You're definitely right that it isn't really built in a way that allowed the rest of MGT2 to balance or mesh with it that much was obvious just from reading it. I'm running MGT2 right now and one of my players wanted to be a robot, so I picked up Book 9: Robot. All that said, your needs may be different than mine, in which case, go to town! :) You aren't playing anymore, you're just directing bots to go have adventures. Once you've got one or more of those, where has the fun gone. It's too easy to build a super-warrior-bot, or the super-skills bot that does everything for you, or the combo that does everything. I wouldn't hand any of them to a player in one of my games, and have them build their own 'bot though. They are also useable with referee involvement. ![]() There are also several 3rd party robots books for the Mongoose 1e SRD, or Cepheus Engine, which is built on the SRD. It has some issues, but you can make usable bots with referee involvement. ![]() So, you've got Book 9: Robots from Mongoose 1e. Why would you go do anything dangerous, if you could send your superhuman robot in to deal with the situation. The biggest problem has always been that Traveller is designed for human-scale activities, and robots can be faster/stronger and that throws whatever is left of balance out the window. Traveller has never had really good robot rules. They used some version of the Mongoose 1e Robot book, I'm sure. I suspect that they had plans for including Robot creation in the CSC, but it just got away from them. ![]()
